Saliba's Tutor Method

About Jeff Saliba

A few years ago, Jeff Saliba was working for a local office of a nationally known tutoring company. He was following the company's pre-set curriculum and teaching methods. Jeff found that the methods worked most of the time, but for some pupils he needed to be a little inventive - something the tutoring company's curriculum didn't permit as long as he was working for them. It was then that Jeff split with his nationally known tutoring company and set out on his own.

Business was slow at first, but Jeff was convinced he needed to use the methods that work best for his pupils , not the ones that were approved by someone who didn't understand how his pupils learned best. His persistence paid off and soon Jeff had a flourishing tutoring company.

Welcome To Tutor Saliba Learning

The History Of The Tutor Saliba Teaching Method

The tutor saliba teaching strategy is one of the newest methods teachers have to manage a classroom and plan lessons. But how and why was it invented? Why should it be used and what are the benefits to the pupils and teachers? Here we'll go over this unique teaching method.

Why The Tutor Saliba Strategy Was Invented

Jeff Saliba quickly discovered that certain pupils learned best by seeing the information, while others needed to hear or speak the information in order to remember and retain. Armed with that knowledge, Jeff got to work designing his own teaching method, never dreaming that it might be useful to other teachers. Jeff wanted to focus on all pupils , unlike the traditional lecture strategy that simply focuses on pupils who prefer to hear the important information. Jeff eventually named his teaching strategy the tutor saliba - after himself and his tutoring pupils who inspired him to create a strategy that works for everyone.

How It Works

This special teaching strategy works because it realizes that pupils are individuals and should be treated as individuals, not just as one classroom. These pupils learn individually and that doesn't mean one method is better than other, it's just different. These differences are celebrated using this style.

This method is admittedly more difficult for teachers. Instead of just worrying about planning a lecture, teachers need to coordinate lecture with small group activities and visual learning tools like posters, bulletin boards and handouts.

Pupils who spend time in a tutor saliba classroom either immediately flourish or remain the same. Pupils who excel already under the most used lecture system, usually do well already. Jeff's teaching strategy can sometimes boost their already good grades, but it isn't abnormal if these pupils don't see a large increase in their grades. It's the other pupils , the ones who need a visual or spoken reminder of information, who see the greatest increase in their grades. This is because these pupils have been long ignored and never reached their full potential.

Teachers who utilize the tutor saliba teaching strategy are quickly realizing it's many benefits. Once a teacher gets used to planning a lesson plan using this method, the extra work is quickly rewarded.

How The Tutor Saliba Teaching Method Can Help Teach Young Children To Read

Many parents are looking for ways to provide their children with the best educational opportunities. Ways of fostering intellectual growth from the start can include reading, singing and talking to them from birth, but many people don’t realize they can actually teach their very young children how to read on their own. The tutor saliba teaching method is one way. Parents don't need an expensive tutoring program - instead they just need to use same techniques that teachers all over the country use.

Talk With Your Children

Infants and toddlers learn by hearing their parents talk to them. Some parents believe that they need to speak in baby-talk voices, but speaking to them as you would another adult actually helps them move cognitively along at a quicker pace. Hearing parents talk helps children build the foundation for words and learning to read.

Use Visual Aids

Another aspect of the tutor saliba teaching method is visual aids. Flash cards and books are easy and inexpensive visual aids that can help you teach your child to read. Flash cards don't even have to be fancy or store bought, instead just use plain index cards and a black marker. You can glue pictures from magazines or printed out from the internet on one side and then write the word on the opposite side.

Books are another visual aid that children will love using. Nearly every child loves to be read to and it's an excellent way to spend time together. When focusing on reading skills, choose books with simple pages with one word and photo on each page. It may be more difficult for young children to follow each word in a longer story book, but that doesn't mean these books should be ignored. Reading is always a good experience for both parents and child, no matter what the book is about.

The television can also be used as a visual aid, but many medical associations caution against allowing children under the age of two to watch any television. Use educational videos sparingly, if at all and concentrate more on working one on one with your child.

The Final Step - Mimicking Speech

Infants and toddlers learn to talk by mimicking sounds that they hear. Working with the flashcards, saying the word and then getting the child to mimic the sounds will bring all the steps of the tutor saliba teaching method together. Once your child can master speaking each word, you can teach them to say the word when they're shown the flashcard, further solidifying the connection between the printed and spoken word.

Teaching small children to read using the tutor saliba teaching method is easy and doesn't have to be expensive. Some parents have had success starting at only 18 months, but if you're starting later than that, don't worry. Since this method is easily adapted for learners of all ages, you can begin it at any educational stage.

“Tutor Saliba Teaching Method” Creator Earns Award of Excellence

Tutor Saliba teaching method visionary receives recognition for achievement from Teacher's Association of America.

Portland, OR – March 1, 2010 – Jeff Saliba has been given the Award of Excellence by the Teacher’s Association of America in recognition of his achievements with the tutor saliba teaching method.

Saliba originally developed the method after working with a child that has learning disabilities. It directs the educator’s efforts toward students that are visual, auditory and oral learners. An in-depth program for high school students was modified for this year’s curriculum with special emphasis on PowerPoint presentations by teachers. This is what spurred the Award for Excellence.

“As we discover better strategies to reach the children in our classrooms that are on the brink of falling behind, we find that all students are reaping the benefits,” said Saliba. “The PowerPoint presentations are an easy solution for teachers that can be put together quickly and easily.” The tutor saliba program focuses on teaching material through hearing, speaking and seeing information for student’s kindergarten through high school. The PowerPoint presentations meet all of these designations in the lesson plan.

“I am honored that the Teacher’s Association of America has not only endorsed my teaching method, but has taken the time and effort to teach its members about it,” said Saliba. “Our nation’s children are the future of tomorrow. We need to give them every opportunity to learn and to succeed.”

In addition to the Award for Excellence, Saliba has been admitted as an honorary member of the association. For more information about the tutor saliba learning method, visit Tutor Saliba.

Tutor Saliba Teaching Method Gaining Popularity In Academia And Throughout The Business World

The newest teaching method has gained extraordinary popularity in classrooms throughout the country. The strategy, which strives to reach students who learn by hearing, speaking and seeing information, is also proving useful in the corporate world.

A new teaching method that is gaining popularity throughout America's schools, and students throughout the country are reaping the benefits. The method, known as the tutor saliba method, caters to students who learn in a variety of ways and has become a way for teachers to reach students easily.

The tutor saliba method differs from other teaching methods because it combines listening through traditional lectures with current trends such as small group work and visual aids like handouts or PowerPoint presentations. Attempting to reach visual learners, auditory learners and oral learners, this way of instructing learners encourages teachers to create lesson plans that reach all types.

It's useful in more than just the classroom. Researchers have found the tutor saliba method works throughout elementary school and all the way to adulthood. Many corporations and retail stores have adapted the tutor saliba strategy for use in its training rooms and sales space.

Tutor Saliba Learning Method Materials Soon Available In Spanish

Lectures and teaching materials will bridge the communication gap for educators.

Portland, OR – June 9, 2010 – Jeff Saliba, founder of the tutor saliba teaching method, announced this week that teaching materials will soon be available in Spanish.

“We have found that some of our educators, while they understand the English language, are struggling to understand the basic fundamentals of the learning method through the English materials,” said Saliba. “We have brought on two translators to help us produce the information in Spanish.”

As a result, not only will the teaching materials be available in Spanish, but those teaching in Spanish will have the same or similar sample problems available in the curriculum in Spanish as well. This will help them to communicate better with students in their native Spanish language.

“The tutor saliba method is about breaking down barriers to learning,” said Saliba. “If a language barrier is preventing students and teachers from understanding and progressing, then it needs to be remedied.”

The translators involved in the project are well-versed in the tutor saliba learning method and have been using it to teach English As A Second Language classes in their local communities. While there is a large arsenal of tutor saliba teaching materials available, they are presently available only in English. He wanted someone with personal experience in the program to do the translations. Saliba hopes to first have his workshop speeches and lectures translated into English, then the workbooks and manuals.

The tutor saliba ideology was created by Saliba after working intently with a student whose learning disabilities interfered with his scholastic achievement. Saliba’s goal was to bridge the communication gap facing some students and their teachers. The method focuses on auditory, oral and visual learning in an assortment of subjects.

What Parents Need To Know

About The Tutor Saliba Teaching Strategy

Teachers know that an involved parent can make all the difference in a child's education. A parent that actively asks about school each day and possesses an interest in homework teaches children that their learning is important. One way parents can take charge of their child's education is to learn about the increasingly popular tutor saliba teaching method. One of the major benefits of this teaching strategy is that it is designed to reach all types of learners. In this teaching method, teachers make sure pupils hear, see and speak the information because these are the three major ways people retain information. Teachers can make sure pupils hear the information using traditional lecture methods, while making sure they see information by using an overhead projection, classroom bulletin boards and classroom handouts. Because some pupils need to speak the information, teachers can have pupils read out loud or work in small groups. Teachers who do all of these things in the same lesson plan make sure all pupils understand and retain the required information.

There are no drawbacks of this teaching strategy for students. The major hassle is on the educator instead. This learning strategy is time consuming for the educator because he or she needs to prepare a lesson plan and teach the information in three different ways. Teachers will need to create bulletin boards and handouts, while planning lectures and small group work. However, as the educator becomes more comfortable with this method, tailoring lesson plans becomes almost second nature. For instance, if parents have instituted a chore list at home, it's easy to use this teaching strategy to remind children of their chores. Parents can create a visual chart, while verbally reminding children to do their chores. Parents can also reinforce the list by asking their children what chore they're supposed to do next. Because children will see, hear and speak the information, it is being reinforced three different ways and more likely to be remembered.

Parents can also use this strategy at home while reading. Once children are old enough to read, parents can sit and read out loud together. Parents and children can take turns and switch every page or every chapter once the child gets old enough for chapter books. Children are never too old to listen to a story so make sure to read together often.

This teaching strategy caters to people who learn all different ways: by seeing, hearing and speaking the information. While it's primarily used in classrooms, this learning strategy can be applied to nearly any business and this article outlines how retail stores can make it work to increase sales. Instead of turning on a satellite radio station, consider piping in a specific sales message. The message can be about special sales, new products or any other information customers may find useful.

Some customers may tune the message out, however, using this learning strategy means that approximately thirty fiver percent will listen. If even half of these people try the products you've focused, your sales have increased. The third type of learner highlighted in the tutor saliba learning strategy learns by speaking. This can be a little more difficult to incorporate into a retail store. Employees should do their best to interact with customers more than the normal greetings. If employees can start a dialogue about products and services the store offers, customers who learn by saying information out loud will be more likely to remember highlighted products. Learning doesn't have to be strictly academic. Customers need to retain and remember information about your store and products in order for your business to succeed. By trying to cater to people who retain information by seeing, hearing and speaking it, your sales will likely increase with minimal effort.

The first step toward implementing this method is determining how each of the children in your classroom learn. While this experiment can intially take some time, it will save valuable learning time in the future because you waste time throughout the year teaching in a manner that is ineffective for each student. This 'learning type' experiement works best when stretch it out over three different days, for half an hour at a time. If you're crunched for time in the classroom, you can compact the tutor saliba testing into one session, but learners may lose their concentration, skewing your results. On the first day of tutor saliba testing, have learners try to remember and retain information by just using their eyes. Introduce new material while the learners are wearing ear plugs or ear muffs and instruct them that they cannot talk. Try to go over age appropriate material, such as introducing new spelling words. Go over the material for half an hour with visual aids like boardwork and worksheets and try not to talk much. At the end of the day, give a quiz, but make sure to tell the learners that it will not count towards their final grade. Learners who do well on the quiz are comfortable learning by using visual aids On the second day of tutor saliba testing, have everyone cover their eyes and remind them not to talk. Instruct using a tradition lecture method and go over the same type of material that you worked on the day before, such as a new batch of spelling words.

You will be able to determine which students might need to reiterate information out loud once you’ve had a chance to look through the quizzes from the previous day. These learners are typically the ones who get in trouble for speaking out of turn. It's not that they're bad and misbehaving, instead they have an actual need to talk. Talking helps them learn and retain information and can help them focus when they're completing classroom assignments. It's a good idea to implement this testing last, because there is no easy way to test an entire classroom at a time. Instead, test the student one on one by letting them read out loud and then seeing what information they've retained. Completing this tutor saliba testing will help you become a more effective teacher. If you don't have any learners who need information presented in a certain way, you can then leave it out of your classroom. Knowing a little more about how your learners learn and the tutor saliba teaching method will help you throughout your entire teaching career.

How Parents Can Incorporate It Into Everyday Life

Education starts at home so it is especially important for parents to try to incorporate the tutor saliba method into daily home life. Doing this can get the students used to information being presented in three different ways, which makes them less likely to act out in school due to boredom.

For instance, if parents have instituted a chore list at home, it's easy to use this teaching method to remind children of their chores. Using The Science Behind The Tutor Saliba Teaching Method To Effectively Teach All Students

Researchers have recently begun studying the different ways people learn in order to more effectively take advantage of the tutor saliba teaching method. This method acknowledges there is no right or wrong way to learn and that different students might need information presented in different ways. Here we'll discuss the science behind the different learning styles, how teachers can effectively teach to all learners, and when it might be effective to separate learners into groups to make teaching easier.

The Science Behind Different Learning Styles

There's no right or wrong way for people to learn, nor is learning one size fits all. Because of the connections made within the brain, some people learn best by hearing, some by seeing and others by speaking information. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to how people learn and children from the same family can be different types of learners, which can frustrate parents and teachers. Parents who are used to an older child understanding and listening to a spoken command may not realize that a younger sibling needs to physically see those same instructions. Once teachers and parents understand the differences in learning styles, instructions will be followed more easily.

How Teachers Can Teach To All Learners Using The Tutor Saliba Method

Once teachers realize that they need to present information in three different ways, classroom management will likely be easier. The tutor saliba teaching method is an effective way to reach children who learn best by seeing, hearing and speaking the information. Teachers can use traditional lecture to reach the students who need to hear the information, small groups for those who need to speak the information and classroom bulletin boards and handouts for those who need to see the information.

Teachers will likely find using the tutor saliba teaching method more time consuming than traditional lectures, but the rewards will more than make up for any hassle.

Separating The Learners To Make Teaching More Effective

Some school districts are testing students at the beginning of each year and determining which teaching method works best for each individual. Once this has been determined, it's possible to separate students into different classes that cater to each learning style for certain classes, usually math or science. Doing this has the benefits of tailoring classes for each type of student, but is not recommended for all classes. It has been proven that there are direct benefits to combining learning styles. For instance, students who hear, see and speak information can sometimes learn faster even if they typically learn best by hearing information. Separating students can also be a detriment if a student is placed in the incorrect classroom. A student who learns best by seeing information may be placed in a hearing classroom. That student will have to work harder to overcome their learning style. If your child's school decides to separate students, make sure to have your child retested if he or she suddenly loses interest in school or if grades start to suffer. The tutor saliba teaching method acknowledges there are many different ways people learn and that there is no right or wrong way. Once parents and teachers understand this, teaching and learning becomes easier for all. What Are The Benefits Of Tutor Saliba Meditation? Meditation is a term most often used to refer to the different techniques or holistic discipline that is used for the purpose of focusing and to learn to control attention. The discipline has been used by a variety of different cultures throughout history. The Tutor Saliba meditation method originates with Tutor Saliba Island, a peaceful republic whose natives are known for their joyful and non-aggressive way of living. Many people still use these techniques as a form of medicine for the mind and body. While it was mainly used for religious, cultural, or spiritual purposes centuries ago, nowadays it often used outside these contexts.

Over the years, research has been done to understand what the meditating discipline can do for the body as a whole. Meditating can help both the physical parts of a person’s body as well as the psychological. The brain, mind and physical body can benefit simply by learning to focus and the power to control one’s attention as the practice and techniques stress. Tutor Saliba meditation has grown in popularity outside of the common contexts because of how helpful it can be to the entire body, not just the physical parts. Individuals can meditate anytime, anywhere when they need or like. The practice or techniques can be learned through instruction from a certified teacher or elder. Classes are offered at the resort on the island, although some classes are taught elsewhere.

Physiological Benefits

There are many physiological benefits that come with practicing meditating techniques. The physiological aspects of these techniques are often the most widely known and discussed. Based on research meditating can be helpful to the physical body. The most common physical benefits are a lower pulse rate, reduced blood pressure, and a decreased metabolic rate. A reduced heart rate and metabolic rate is beneficial because it is an indicator of regeneration and deep sleep, while reduced blood pressure can help balance the body. Meditating can also reduce and alleviate stress, aid individuals with asthma to breathe easier, and to even delay the aging process of the brain.

Psychological Benefits The psychological benefits of meditation are becoming increasingly well-known as research has surfaced over the years. While many studies mainly focus on what meditation and its varying techniques can do for the physical body, the benefits of the psychological have been explored as well. Positive psychological aspects for the practice and its techniques include an improvement in memory, a reduction in moodiness, anxiety, irritableness and even depression, along with an increase in emotional stability. The practice has shown to boost learning and creativity as well because it improves the coherence of brainwave patterns. Those who meditate are often more content and happier than they were before or more than individuals do not meditate.

When parents and loved ones get older, many times the care of the person falls to their children or other relatives who live in close proximity. Caring for a senior that has multiple health problems that are treated on a daily basis is something that is difficult for most people. The reason is that the caretaker is more than likely living with the senior and this can make the senior feel as if they are being pushed out of their own home. When this happens, there are going to be conflicts and it could lead to the elderly member of the family refusing to take their medication or be stubborn when it comes to going to the doctor appointments that they must make.

A tip for those that find themselves in this position is to make sure that the elderly member does not feel as if they are being treated like a child. This means that the caretaker must be involved in the process of treatment for the medical problem, so that the senior feels as if they are working with the caretaker and not just being told what to do. One of the main goals of keeping a family member at home instead of pushing them into a nursing home is to let that person have some of the independence that they have always had while still keeping them safe.

For those that are the caretakers of seniors with multiple health issues, they should be certain that they understand what medicines to give and when they should be given. This once again boils down to the person being an active partner with the doctor in getting the person treated as they should be. It may come in handy to have a detailed schedule of what medicine the patient gets and when so that there is no confusion.

The caretaker is also going to find that along with living with the person and taking care of the medications that they may have to deal with the insurance as well. For those with questions on the insurance plan that the person has, they should be certain to contact the health insurance company to find out the basics of the plan so that the care giver knows exactly what to expect. Retiree medical insurance may help to pay for in-home health care and also offset the costs of doctor’s appointments and medications.

Caring for an aging family member is difficult; however, the younger members of the family need to realize that the health of the person is in their hands now. When the older member has multiple health problems it can be stressful for family members to deal with, however, the best advice that can be given is to ask questions when they need them answered and to take one day at a time. If you have any questions or would like more information on retiree medical health plans, check out Benistar online.
